Sunday night nightmare

I'm taking the GRE test tomorrow. So I had a total melt down last night when I couldn't solve the F*&^ing percentage problem. I know I'm not that stupid, but apparently, I AM! After going through all the tears and negativity, I finally solved the problem, which only took about 10 sec! ( that pissed me off even more!!!)

This happens pretty regularly, especially at a time when I have a big test coming. I never notice it till the storm passes and realize what I've done. Of course, Gavin is always so kind and supportive at times like these. I hate to say it, but I make a horrible person to be around when that happens. I'm very thankful for the hugs, kisses, and patients Gavin gives me. In any case, normally people don't see this side of me, but unfortunately for Will, he saw the whole thing. He probably thinks I'm psychotic, which from time to time I think I am.

Well, the test is tomorrow at 4:15 pm and it's supposed to be an 4 hour test. I don't expect to do too well on this test. If it's REALLY bad, I probably will decide not to apply this year.

r = the interest rate, as a decimal (5%, for example, is r = 0.05)

P = (N/r)( 1 - (1 + r)^-n )

For example, if the plan is to get paid $20,000 a year for 20 years and do it with an annuity when the interest rate is 5%, the amount you'd need to invest in the annuity is

P = (20000/0.05)( 1 - (1 + 0.05)^-20 ) = 400000(1 - .37689) = $249,244

Biology 1403

Gosh! I must be really lucky this year. My animal biology is going to be fun, too. Since the course title is animal biology, we are going to study about animals and how they are closely or distantly related to each other. Our professor added "animal of the day" to interest students in the subject. We also have a quiz every Friday. I know most students don't like quizzes, but I love them. It's not only easy points, but also forces me to study the material every day. Well, I spent sometime in the library yesterday and found some good spots to study. Sunny private and quiet room, with my own chalk board!
Anyhow, I can't wait to get my books and start readying some of the materials. I officially start studying for classes after 10/3 since that is my deadline for vet school application. I had this feeling that I would get in next year, but the more I go to class, the better I feel about getting better grades for the upcoming year and rather re-apply next year. Hopefully one of the professors will write me a letter of recommendation.

I was little worried about this year's course load, but I feel as though the subjects are getting specific enough that it is interesting.

Biochemistry

OHHHHH, I can't wait till Monday lecture. We pretty much got to see the overview of this class and it's going to be an amazing year!!!
The first part of the Fall quarter is going to be mostly reviewing biology and o-chem. But the second 1/2 of the quarter is what I'm looking forward to studying. We are going to be covering proteins and focusing on Hemoglobin, which is the main component of RBC. We are going to study the function and their role in human body.
The professor seems very enthusiastic about this material and understands that most people taking this class will continue into med/dentistry/vet/ grad school that he will be focusing biochemistry in the perspective of clinical application. (I'm good at that because I can relate it to my work immediately. )
We are also using this book Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Biochemistry which is used by med students who are taking the boards. I only saw the professor flip it through, and it has a large amount of illustration with pictures and such. (another plus for me)
In any case, I wanted to note this excitement, so I can remember what it was like at the beginning of the quarter!

Analogy question

I've noticed this about myself... I cannot do the analogy section in standardized testing. I received the lowest score on this when I took the SAT, and now it has come back to haunt me.
Please someone help me understand this stuff!

#1 Dull: boring
a) glue: attaching
b) die: shaping
c) anchor: sailing
d) ink: printing
e) pedal: propelling

In this question, I can't see the connection with the word "die" and "shaping." I'm not sure if it means when you die, you become rigid, therefore having a shape?
or Die: a cutting or shaping tool that shapes??
It seems as thought it's the second one, but am I right?

#2 Evaporate: vapor

a) corrode : acid
b) centrifuge : liquid
c) petrify : stone
d) saturate : liquid
e) incinerate : fire

The only reason I picked the right answer was process elimination. But I still would like someone to make a sentence out the combination that will fit with evaporate: vapor and petrify: stone.

My GRE class taught me to make sentences using the prompted combination. The point was to see if I can use the choices (a,b,c,d,e) to find the same connection with the prompt. I tried and realized that I'm not so good at it.
They also said, "look for the 'typical and necessasry relatioship' " which seems to be working for me at this point. But it is still hard to pin point which is the "typical and necessasry relatioship" when you just don't know the words. English is very frustrating.

sampler - not what you get at Denny's! It is the cloth people make when they are practicing how to stitch.
pundits - person with specialized knowledge

Tips on buying Text book

1. Go to the book store 1 week before class starts and see the books are needed for class.
2. Write down the ISBN# (if possible), title, author(s), and image description of the cover page.
3. Go to amazon.com or ecmaps.com.

That way you will get your books in time.
