Bay to Breakers 06'
I can't tell you how fun this event was!! I highly recommend to those who have never tired it.
I ran 7.2 miles without stopping. Frankly, I can't believe I finished the race and that fact that I finished the race within the 2 hr mark. I think my time was somewhere close to 1hr and 40 min.
As I ran, many things came into mind but one thing that stood out was that : how much strangers can give you courage to keep going. While I huffed and puffed up the hill, there were so many people cheering and blasting music to cheer us up the hill. Although I didn't appreciate the 12 year kid that kept saying, "you have 5 more miles after the hill," I still enjoyed having to see those people around me while I ran.
One thing that really sucked was that, I was under the impression that the hill came around 3~4 mile mark, so I figure it would be an easy run after that. BUT NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. The hill only came around 2 miles, and I did have FIVE more miles to go. ( I thought the kid was kidding!) That was really sad. I got to the top of the hill and saw the "2 mile" mark and couldn't believe my eyes. It wasn't a dream, so I kept running. (sigh)
What is most memorable about this event was that I was able to look at the 80ish year old grandpa's wee wee. It was small and shrively. I tried not to look at too many wee wees, but that one, I had to turn around and look at it!
After the race, it was a nightmare. I was really thirsty and there were no water stands that had water bottles. I didn't want to go to the "after event" so I got on the MUNI to go home.
As soon as I got on BART, my body was cold, my muscles were achy, and I felt like throwing up. I was very dehydrated. I tried to keep my mind off from wanting to throw up, so I slept on the BART from SF to Dublin. Once I got home, I drank 5 glasses of water and had some peach nectar juice to give myself some glucose. I lay in bed waiting for my body to get better. Soon enough, within 10 min, I was better!
SO.... note to self.... TRY to get to the race early so there is some water left for me at the finish line.
